Ford has several different Ranger prototypes out and about testing.
After catching the FX4 model testing last week, spy photographers have now managed to snap photos of the XLT trim playing in the snow. Up until now, we have only seen the XLT wearing a mule front end, but this time it’s in production form confirming that the XLT will get its own unique grille. It’s unclear what powerplants will be offered on the new Ranger, but the current XLT in other markets can be fitted with a 3.2-liter diesel engine that’s also found in the Transit.
Expect to see the Ford Ranger to offer a number of configurations to better compete with the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon.

That means in terms of powertrain, there should be EcoBoost four- and six-cylinder mills, while a diesel is a possibility. The top of the range could feature Ford’s twin-turbo EcoBoost V6. The 10-speed automatic transmission is also expected to be paired to the engines.
The 2019 Ford Ranger should make its debut early next year, very likely at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show.
