Say hello to the second plug-in hybrid in the Lincoln lineup: the Corsair Grand Touring.

The Corsair follows in the footsteps of the larger Aviator Grand Touring, slinging a battery and electric motor into the mix to augment an existing gas engine. Unlike big brother, however, this powertrain sits in the middle of the Corsair lineup, not at the top.

The bald figures tell the story. Powered by a 2.5-liter, Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder plus a pair of electric motors, Lincoln is targeting 266 hp for the Grand Touring compared to the existing turbocharged 2.0-liter (250 hp) and 2.3-liter (295 hp) engines. The setup allows for electric all-wheel drive, with the aft motor translating electrons to forward motion when needed. An under-floor, 14.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack provides power to the electric motors. If drivers want to run sans dino juice, they’ll be looking at approximately 25 miles of all-electric range.

Drivers will get a range of seven driving modes with the Corsair. Five of these are shared with the rest of the lineup: Normal, Conserve, Excite, Slippery and Deep Conditions. The Grand Touring introduces two new options: Conserve EV and Pure EV. The former relies on the gas engine as much as possible, allowing the battery to charge to up to 75 percent. Pure EV goes the other way: it prioritizes battery power, only bringing the four-pot online when absolutely necessary.

Like the Aviator, the Corsair has subtle exterior clues about its hybrid nature. The Lincoln badge gains a blue hue, while the grille and 20-inch wheels are also unique amongst the range.

The Grand Touring includes many of the available features elsewhere in the Corsair lineup. The Lincoln Way smartphone app offers saveable driver profiles via the Phone As A Key tech. Standard driver aids include automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot detection with cross-traffic alert and auto headlights. Optional features include an upgraded Co-Pilot360 Plus safety suite (adding adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assist, reverse brake assist and active park assist), a heads-up display, and Lincoln’s 24-way adjustable Perfect Position seating.

Lincoln will build the Corsair Grand Touring at its Louisville, KY assembly plant. Look out for it on dealer lots in summer 2020.
