BMW has Sold Over 100K Electrified Vehicles in 2017

BMW has announced it has delivered over 100,000 electrified vehicles to customers worldwide this year.

Fulfilling a promise the German automaker made at the beginning of the year, BMW has sold over 200,000 electrified cars to its customers since the introduction of the i3 in 2013. The company plans on focusing on electrification in the coming years, as it will offer 25 electrified models to its customers by 2025.

To celebrate the milestone, BMW will transform its headquarters in Munich, Germany to a battery through an eye-catching light installation. The BMW Group said it selected the glowing symbol to represent the technological change taking place in mobility.

Starting from 2021, BMW will introduce its fifth generation of electric drivetrain and battery technology, which uses scalable, modular electrification kits that will allow all model series to be fitted with every type of drivetrain. In the near future, we will see the launch of the BMW i8 Roadster next year, followed by a fully-electric MINI model in 2019. An electric version of the BMW X3 is set to arrive in 2020, before the brand’s new technology flagship, the BMW iNext, launches in 2021.

“We deliver on our promises,” said Harald Krüger, chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. “This 99-metre-high signal is lighting the way into the era of electro-mobility. Selling 100,000 electrified cars in one year is an important milestone, but this is just the beginning for us. Since the introduction of the BMW i3 2013, we’ve delivered over 200,000 electrified cars to our customers and by 2025, we will offer 25 electrified models to our customers. Our early focus on electro-mobility has made this success possible – and electro-mobility will continue to be my measure for our future success.”
