The upcoming BMW X7 large SUV has been spied testing once again, but this time it’s wearing its production headlights and taillights.
The X7, which is expected to be previewed with a hydrogen fuel cell concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, will slot in above the X5 and fill an obvious gap in BMW’s SUV lineup. It will be built alongside the X3, X4, X5 and X6 at BMW’s Spartanburg, North Carolina plant and will be exported from the U.S. globally. These spy photos show the large SUV wearing production headlights and taillights and other production-ready components such as brush silver roof rails and exhaust tips.

It’s not clear what will power the X7, but a glance at the BMW X5’s engine lineup provides a good indication. BMW’s 302 horsepower N55 turbocharged inline-six may make an appearance in entry-level models, while its 444 horsepower 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 could motivate higher-end trim levels. Diesels should be offered in some markets and a plug-in hybrid seems likely. A V12 has been rumored as well, and seeing as the 7-Series is offered with a twelve-cylinder, we’d be surprised not to see it in the brand’s big SUV.
The production X7 is expected to arrive sometime early in 2018 before going on sale later in the year. More details should become available as its arrival approaches.
