Possible Jaguar XE R Mule Spied

Possible Jaguar XE R Mule Spied

We’ve already seen Jaguar’s crazy 592 horsepower XE SV Project 8, but new spy photos indicate the British automaker may have a tamer performance XE in the works.

The photos show an XE with a sporty front fascia, side skirts, a camouflaged rear wing and an aggressive rear diffuser housing four exhaust tips. The vehicle is definitely performance oriented, but it’s decidedly less extreme than the XE SV Project 8 and its extra wide bodywork, prominent spoiler and racecar-style rear diffuser.

Considering the XE SV Project 8 will be very extreme and limited to just 300 units, it’s reasonable to assume that Jaguar has a less hot version in the pipeline. The automaker already produces an XE R-Sport, so it seems likely that a full-on XE R will eventually arrive. This car, with its slightly toned down appearance compared to the Project 8, just might be a mule for the  XE R.

If Jaguar does indeed have an XE R on the cards, we assume it would be powered by the same 5.0-liter supercharged V8 found in the Project 8, albeit in a milder format. A 575 horsepower version of the engine powers the Jaguar F-Type R and a 550 horsepower version is found in the Range Rover Sport SVO, either of which we could see landing in a potential XE R.

It’s also possible that this is simply a powertrain mule for the XE SV Project 8, but only time will reveal the truth. Either way, we won’t have to wait long to see a new high-performance Jaguar sedan, with the automaker planning to debut the production version of the wild Project 8 this weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
