Cadillac CT6 Platform Could Underpin Buick Flagship

Cadillac CT6 Platform Could Underpin Buick Flagship

A Buick flagship is on its way and it could be built on the same platform as the Cadillac CT6.

Now that the Cadillac CT6 has made its official debut at the 2015 New York Auto Show, General Motors is willing to discuss the future of the large, rear-wheel drive Omega platform that it’s built on.

According to GM product chief Mark Reuss, the company is looking at building a flagship Buick model and is working on whether the Omega platform will underpin it. Earlier this year, Buick unveiled the Avenir concept at the Detroit Auto Show, hinting at what a future Buick flagship might look like.

When asked whether an Omega-based Buick is ready, Reuss said, “Not yet. We’re working on that.” A large, flagship Buick model would serve well for the brand in China where Buick outsells Cadillac nearly 13-to-1. Reuss did add that a future flagship Buick for China might not use the exact same underpinnings as the new CT6, saying the Cadillac flagship is “a mixed-material architecture and is very flexible. Whether it would be an identical version of that platform or not is a different conversation. But generally speaking, that’s right. We’re looking at it.”
