We’ve seen automakers sharing LEGO models of their lineups, but we haven’t seen anything to this scale before. Chevrolet, in cooperation with Warner Brothers and DC Comics has revealed a huge model of the LEGO Batmobile from the upcoming LEGO Batman movie.
Revealed this past weekend at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show this 17-foot long LEGO Batmobile is no mere toy, and is constructed with 344,187 LEGO blocks. The entire car took 222 hours to design and 1,833 hours to build by LEGO Master Builders in Enfield, Connecticut.
The Batmobile was created to promote the upcoming LEGO Batman movie which is a spin-off of the original LEGO Movie starring the DC Comics superhero.
“To work on the LEGO® Batmobile with Warner Bros. is an absolute thrill for us at Chevy,” said Paul Edwards, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet Marketing. “Many of the themes in ‘The LEGO® Batman Movie,’ like imagination, family and community, align perfectly with our Chevy brand values and add to the value of the partnership.”
The automaker also created a LEGO Batman specific version of its “Real people, not actors’ advertising spots, seen below.
You can’t buy this model, and even if you could it wouldn’t be easy to get home. All those pieces combined add up to a model that weighs well over 1,600 pounds, with each tire weighing 100 lbs each. But it’s fun to see Chevrolet having some fun with the broody Dark Knight, as the Ren Center in Detroit flashed the Batsignal this weekend.
