2018 Audi SQ5 Joins Clan of SUVs That Have No Business Being So Fast

The latest addition to Audi’s high-performance SUV family has just debuted at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, the 2018 Audi SQ5.

The sporty SUV packs a 3.0-liter TFSI V6 that churns out 354 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The SQ5 funnels its power to all four wheels through an eight-speed tiptronic transmission. With active torque splitting between axles, and yet more active torque splitting between the rear wheels, the SQ5 is sure to get around corners as quickly as it gets off the line.

Speaking of which, the new SQ5 will get you to 60 mph from a standstill in just 5.1 seconds. And with the help of adaptive steering and a sport adaptive air suspension (the first such system in an SQ5) drivers will always be in control of the big Audi.

An added benefit of the air ride suspension is that it adds a fourth driving mode to the SQ5 that drivers might not expect. With the ability to change the SQ5’s ride height, you can also take it off-roading.

Inside, the SQ5 is luxurious and well-equipped. Optional diamond-pattern seats, Bang & Olufsen stereo, and Virtual Cockpit all make the driver feel how special the car is. And since this is an S, there’s also a sport setting for the virtual cockpit that adds a boost pressure gauge and lap timer to the display.

Audi’s full suite of driver aids including Audi pre sense, side assist, adaptive cruise, etc., are all also available.
