It’s also the fastest Ford Mustang GT ever.

Ford has announced the 2018 Mustang GT has an available Drag Strip mode that will take the sports car from zero-to-60 mph in less than four seconds. That is thanks to a redesigned 5.0-liter V8 engine with all-new available 10-speed automatic transmission, providing 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. But that’s not all, as according to Ford Mustang chief engineer Carl Widmann, there’s a few more things contributing to the Mustang GT’s sub-four second zero-to-60 time.

“Typically, when you shift gears, you give up time,” said Widmann. “In Drag Strip mode, the engine torque doesn’t drop when you’re shifting. You get peak engine torque and horsepower straight through thanks to our new Ford-built 10-speed transmission.”

In addition, Widmann highlights the available custom-designed Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires on the new Performance Pack in contributing to the fast acceleration time.

Ford was quick to point out in a press release that with a zero-to-60 time of less than four seconds, that makes the 2018 Ford Mustang GT faster than a $94,000 Porsche 911 Carrera.

New Mustang EcoBoost owners get to enjoy a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 310 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque, and in Drag Strip mode with Performance Package and the 10-speed automatic, it can post an impressive zero-to-60 time of under five seconds.

The new 2018 Ford Mustang will arrive dealerships this fall, and the automaker revealed its online configurator will be going live tomorrow, July 25.
