CARS.COM — The mid-size sedan offering from Hyundai's Genesis luxury lineup, the G80, is getting pricier for the 2018 model year — but still not as pricey as competitors. The base G80 with rear-wheel drive and a 3.8-liter V-6 now starts at $42,725, including a $975 destination charge. That's $375 more than last year's model, the G80's first.

The all-new-for-2018 3.3T Sport trim, which debuted at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, introduces a model-exclusive, twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V-6 and starts at $56,225 including destination. The V-8-powered 5.0 Ultimate trim, meanwhile, gets a big price hike, $2,475, and starts at $57,975. All-wheel drive adds $2,500 across the board.
Despite the price hike, the G80 remains competitive among rivals. The 2017 Volvo S90 comes closest at $47,945, followed by the 2017 Lexus GS 350 at $51,340, the 2017 BMW 530i at $52,195, and the 2017 Mercedes E300 at $53,075. All prices include a destination charge.
The G80 Sport hits dealerships in May while the 3.8 and 5.0 models are set to launch in the summer. So what do buyers of the latter two get for their extra money? The returning G80 gets an updated grille and lower-bumper body element, available adaptive LED headlights, standard 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, a revised high-mount brakelight, and a revised lower rear bumper area with a new chrome accent.
Inside, the G80 gets upgraded front tray console, analog clock and rearview mirror designs, along with new stainless-aluminum-finished speaker grilles, a now-analog fuel gauge, standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, a second USB charging port in the front console, available Qi wireless charging and upgrades to the Lexicon Premium stereo system.
Standard safety features on all models now include the addition of pedestrian detection to the auto emergency braking system and driver attention monitoring, as well as an available 360-degree camera system.
The Sport trim differentiates itself on the outside with aggressive features, including a revised, crosshatched dark-chrome grille; a sporty front bumper and LED headlights with signature Genesis copper accents around the bulbs; black mirror covers; sports rocker molding; new 19-inch dark-chrome wheels with copper accents and upgraded brakes featuring Genesis-branded front calipers; dark-chrome quad exhaust; a lower bumper diffuser; and dark-tinted taillight lenses. Exclusive paint colors include Polar Ice and Seville Red, which join Casablanca White and Caspian Black.
Sport-specific cabin features include a sporty interior with black or gray leather sport seats with contrast stitching and copper accents in the perforations, carbon-fiber trim on the doors and dash, a black microfiber suede headliner, aluminum-alloy pedals and a thicker steering wheel, also with contrast stitching.
