Aston Martin Expands its Partnership with Red Bull Racing

More hypercars could be coming.

Aston Martin has announced it will be the title and innovation partner of Red Bull Racing next year, which means the Formula 1 team will compete as “Aston Martin Red Bull Racing.” The already-successful partnership has resulted in the Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar, and the British automaker is promising more exciting products from the collaboration. The deal will also create the new Advanced Performance Centre that will open on the Red Bull Racing campus in Milton Keynes later this year.

As reported earlier, Aston Martin will evaluate the opportunity to be involved in Red Bull Racing’s power unit from 2021, after being asked by the FIA to join discussions on future engines for Formula 1.

Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing began their relationship in 2016, creating the Valkyrie that was sold out on launch. In a press release, Aston Martin said the Valkyrie “is set to be the first in a line of incredible products to be borne of this Innovation Partnership,” suggesting more hypercars could be on their way.

As for the new Advanced Performance Centre, it will create 110 new jobs and will house the British automaker’s second dedicated design center and engineering personnel, who will be working on future sports cars.

“Title partnership is the next logical step for our Innovation Partnership with Red Bull Racing. We are enjoying the global brand awareness that the revitalized Formula One provides,” said Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer. “The power unit discussions are of interest to us but only if the circumstances are right. We are not about to enter an engine war with no restrictions in cost or dynamometer hours but we believe that if the FIA can create the right environment we would be interested in getting involved.”
