Audi Sport Still Working on Microwaved SQ2

Audi Sport Still Working on Microwaved SQ2

Audi‘s performance division continues to work on a faster Q2.

Spy shooters have captured Audi engineers hard at work evaluating the SQ2 which should arrive next year. This is only the second time a prototype has been spotted in public after Audi filed a global trademark for the “SQ2” name back in 2013.

From head-on, the car doesn’t look all that impressive, the only potential clue to its identity being a set of slightly enlarged air intakes, but out back the quad exhaust pipes confirm its provenance. The prototype’s small alloy wheels can barely cope with concealing the SQ2’s big performance brakes, expect larger wheels and fender flares come production.

The SQ2 is expected to share a powertrain with the latest iteration of the S3, which uses a 306-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder paired with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system. It’s possible the cocaine-infused crossover will make use of a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Allegedly, Audi is even toying with the idea of eventually adding an even angrier RS Q2 version which would use the company’s venerable 360-hp five-cylinder engine.

Regardless, look for the SQ2 to make its official debut at next year’s Geneva Motor Show.
