Camaro Made For GT4 Racing Now On Sale to Anyone With Money

The Pratt & Miller built Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R is now on sale for delivery in 2018.

For $259,000 you can get your hands on the new GT4-spec Camaro which is eligible for Pirelli World Challenge and IMSA competition in the United States, along with multiple GT4 sanctioned series globally.

So what does enough money to purchase four new Camaro ZL1s get you?

To start with, the body has been completely optimized for downforce; it gets wider fenders and side skirts to aid airflow, plus there’s a 21-point carbon fiber rear spoiler, a GT4-spec carbon front splitter, and GT4-spec front dive planes.

Cutting weight out of the Camaro comes courtesy of new carbon fiber doors and a carbon front fascia, the GT4.R has a minimum weight of 3,131 pounds, roughly 800 lbs less than a standard ZL1. Although a chunk of the weight savings are delivered by the missing supercharger. The GT4.R foregoes the ZL1’s stock 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V8 in favor of a prepped version of GM’s naturally aspirated 6.2-liter LT1 V8.

The GT4.R foregoes the ZL1’s stock 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V8 in favor of a prepped version of GM’s naturally aspirated 6.2-liter LT1 V8 which is good for 480 horsepower in this application. It may make 170 fewer ponies than its road-going counterpart, but Chevy gave it dry-sump lubrication, a custom camshaft, and a custom carbon fiber intake.

The motor is hooked to a Xtrac six-speed sequential gearbox which shifts via wheel-mounted pneumatic paddles, feeding power to a Xtrac Salisbury-type differential. Big six-piston Brembos handle stopping at the front while the ZL1’s stock 4-piston rear calipers cameo on the race car; meanwhile, Ohlins provides the 2-way adjustable suspension.

Thanks to Pratt & Miller’s Driver Safety Cell and Schroth six-point safety harness for the driver the Camaro GT4.R meets FIA safety standards.

The car already has a bucketful of pedigree, having won the 2017 Pirelli World Challenge Driver’s, Manufacturer’s and Team championship in its first year at the hands of Lawson Aschenbach and the Black Dog Speedshop race team.
