Dale Earnhardt Jr. has announced his intention to retire from NASCAR racing at the end of the 2017 season.
Earnhardt Jr. has racked up a lot of races over his 18-year careers, winning 26 times in 603 starts including two Daytona 500 wins. Jr. will discuss this announcement further this afternoon in a press conference.
His last race will come on Nov.19 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, a sad day for fans to be sure, as Earnhardt Jr. was voted as NASCAR’s most popular driver for a record 14-years in a row. He qualified for the NASCAR playoffs eight times, but never captured a championship, though he did win championships in 1998 and 1999 in what is now known at the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Jr. took some time away from racing due to concussion issues in 2016, though he returned to racing the No. 88 Chevrolet this season.
He was well known from the beginning of his career thanks in part to his father, Dale Earnhardt, who a successful NASCAR driver, winning seven championships in his time in the sport. Earnhardt senior died in a crash while racing on February 18, 2001.
