FCA Recalls 1.3 Million Vehicles in Two Separate Campaigns

Fiat Chrysler has recalled 1.3 million vehicles in two separate recall campaigns.

The automaker is recalling 538,000 Dodge Journey vehicles built between 2011 and 2015 and a further 233,000 Fiat Freemont crossovers built within the same time period. In affected vehicles, faulty wiring may cause the driver’s side airbag to inadvertently deploy. The issue is linked to five minor injuries, but so far no crashes have been reported. FCA will contact owners of affected vehicles to book an appointment with their dealer and have the wiring replaced.

The second recall covers multiple FCA models in which the alternators may pose a fire risk. In affected vehicles, hot air temperatures may prematurely wear the alternator’s diodes, resulting in a burning smell or smoking. The anti-lock braking system may also begin to act up and the engine may stall as well. Two accidents have been potentially linked to the problem but so far no injuries have been reported. The recall includes 2011-2014 Chrysler 300s, Dodge Chargers and Dodge Challengers and 2012-2014 Dodge Durangos and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs. FCA will contact owners to book an appointment with their dealer and have the alternator replaced.
