Jaguar has announced the new I-Pace E-Trophy racing series – the world’s first electric race series to use cars based on series production vehicles.
Starting in 2018, the I-Pace E-Trophy will serve as the main support series for Formula E. It will follow the open-wheel EV race series to all 10 circuits on the calendar, giving rising race stars the chance to showcase their talents in front of the Formula E paddock. Up to 20 I-Paces will participate in each of the races, Jag says.
“We’ve always said we want to prove our electrification technologies on the track – this is the proof,” said Jaguar Racing boss Gerd Mäuser. “I am looking forward to seeing a full grid of Jaguar I-Pace racecars in late 2018, soon after the first Jaguar I-Pace hits the road in Europe. Ultimately this innovative series will enhance the technology in our future electric vehicles and benefit our customers.”

Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations division (SVO) will build the I-Pace racecars at its HQ in Warwickshire, UK. They will be based the production version of the I-Pace, which will make an estimated 395 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque between two electric motors. The official specs of the racecar, along with entry costs and the race calendar, will be announced at a later date.
