Mazda Introduces Permanent Fix for Takata Airbag Recall

Mazda has rolled out a permanent fix for its vehicles that have been affected by the widespread Takata airbag recall.

Mazda had previously recalled several of its models to replace the Takata airbags, however the cars were repaired with identical parts as the older airbags are more prone to explosion. Now that it has developed a permanent fix in which the passenger side airbag inflators will be replaced with entirely new parts, the cars have been recalled again.

This recall campaign covers about 285,000 vehicles in the U.S. including the 2009 and 2012 Mazda6, 2007-2011 CX-7, 2007-2011 CX-9, 2012 CX-9 and 2009-2011 Mazda6. Mazda has recalled more than 733,000 vehicles total in the U.S. due to faulty Takata inflators.

Because older inflators are more prone to rupture, those vehicles that did not receive all-new parts under the previous recall campaign will be given priority this time around. Those owners of vehicles that have already been repaired with new Takata inflators will be given the permanent fix at a later date.
