Mitsubishi is using the coming solar eclipse to market its new Eclipse Cross SUV.
If you didn’t already know, North America will experience a solar eclipse on August 21st that will span the entire contiguous United States. Unfortunately, only four percent of Americans live in the so-called “path of totality” – that being the prime viewing location to see the eclipse. Mitsubishi will take social media influencers to Salem, Oregon to view the eclipse, which is directly in the path of totality, and also plans to live stream the celestial phenomenon so those of us outside of the area can view it.
“Everyone in the continental U.S. will, at the very least, see a partial eclipse on August 21. With that said, only totality reveals the true celestial spectacle of the solar eclipse,” said Raquel Nuno, a planetary scientist. “For 96 percent of Americans, the partial eclipse will be visible, but they won’t notice their surroundings getting dark. It’s the ‘total’ eclipse that will be something special to see, and those in Oregon are going to experience it first.”

Mitsubishi has also signed on as the exclusive sponsor of ABC News’ live coverage of the total solar eclipse and will air five promotional clips during the broadcast. The Eclipse Cross will make its television debut on “Good Morning America” on August 21st before the eclipse appears later that day. If you want to see footage of the solar event from the point of totality, you can access the live stream on Good Morning America’s Facebook page. The “path of totality” will cross from west to east starting on the coast of Oregon at 10:16 a.m. PDT and ending in South Carolina at 2:48 p.m.
In addition to Good Morning America’s stream, Mitsubishi will also host its own live stream of the eclipse at this link. The stream will go live at 9 a.m. PDT, or 12 p.m. ET.
