Roger Daltrey of The Who Sells Unique Rolls-Royce for Charity

Earlier this year, Rolls-Royce debuted a line of one-off models inspired by the British music industry.

Included in that line of special edition models was a Wraith inspired by The Who’s 1969 album . The car was designed using input from Mike Mcinnerney, who designed the album cover for Tommy and number of other albums by The Who. It features the album’s cover art on the hood and number of other subtle nods to the album such as blue bird insignias and a blue pinstripe along the beltline.

The car went to The Who frontman Roger Daltrey following its completion, but the famed musician decided to sell the car off through Rolls-Royce of Sunningdale. All proceeds from the sale went to the Teenage Cancer Trust charity – a considerable donation considering the car took in £208,000 ($270,000). Daltrey is an Honorary Patron of the trust.

“Seven young people are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK,” Daltrey said. “and these vital funds will help Teenage Cancer Trust take a huge step towards its goal of providing specialist support to every young person with cancer in the UK. This car has become an incredible collectors’ item, and it’s gratifying to know that the proceeds of the sale will support such a worthy cause.”
