The 2018 BMW Z4 is Starting to Really Take Shape

The 2018 BMW Z4 has been spied looking nearly ready to make its big debut.

The prototype photographed looks to be wearing the Z4’s production headlights and taillights. The taillight features an upper and lower segment with a small void splitting it down the middle – a departure from the Concept Z4 shown in Pebble Beach last month. The headlights, meanwhile, are only partially uncovered are probably larger than they look here. We’re expecting them to look very similar to the headlights seen on the concept.

Other design cues revealed by this prototype include the vent just behind the front wheels, which were also seen on the concept, and the trapezoidal dual exhaust tips. The trunklid appears to have an integrated little lip spoiler as well, which is at this point a staple of the Z4. The widened kidney grilles previewed on the concept can also be seen peeking through the fake grille up front and will be featured the production car.

Under the hood of the Z4 will likely be a turbocharged inline-six cylinder engine, however entry-level models may get a 2.0-liter turbo. It will share a rear-wheel drive platform with the new Toyota Supra and has been developed alongside the highly anticipated Japanese coupe.

The production version of the 2018 BMW Z4 will make its debut sometime next year – perhaps at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.
