After having its thunder partially stolen by some leaked photos last week, Porsche finally revealed the full extent of improvements to the third-generation of the Cayenne SUV that will arrive next summer.
As the vehicle that arguably saved Porsche, it is an important vehicle for the brand’s profitability and volume, so Porsche is keeping it fresh with typical improvements to power, handling, and practicality. And connectivity, of course.
The base Cayenne gets a 40-horsepower bump to 340 hp thanks to a turbocharged 3.0L V6, with 331 pound-feet of torque to go along with it, promising acceleration to 60 mph in about 6 seconds (0-100 km/h in 6.2).
The Cayenne S features the twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 that leaps right up to 440 hp, 20 hp more than the previous S, and 406 lb-ft of torque, and with the sport Chrono package, it can hit 60 mph in under 5 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.9).

Porsche says the SUV is heavily inspired by the 911 sports car, and along with the exterior upgrades, the Cayenne now has mixed tires and rear-axle steering for the first time. On-road capabilities have also been enhanced by active all-wheel drive as standard, along with Porsche 4D Chassis Control, three-chamber air suspension, and the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) electronic roll stabilization system. And although it packs plenty more standard equipment than before, the third-generation Cayenne weighs up to 143 pounds (65 kilograms) less than its predecessor. An empty Cayenne will tip the scales at 4,376 lbs.
Overall, the Cayenne is nearly 2.5 inches longer (63 mm), despite no changes to the wheelbase’s length of 114 inches (2,895 mm). The roof height has been reduced by 0.35 inch (9 mm) to give it a sleeker appearance. Overall, the car now measures 193.6-inches (4,198 mm) long and 78-inches (1,983 mm) wide.
Each 2019 Porsche Cayenne is fitted with LED headlights as standard, and the company is offering a new three-stage lighting concept for the headlights. The Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) offers a variety of light modes, such as cornering light and motorway light.
The 2019 Porsche Cayenne will be available starting next summer and will start from $66,750 including destination in the U.S. The 2019 Porsche Cayenne S will be priced from $83,950.
