The 2017 Acura MDX has a brand new, sleeker design that’s inspired by the Acura Precision Concept car, which AutoGuide editors nicknamed “The NSX Sedan.” The MDX shares both the NSX’s distinctive Jewel Eye LED headlight design, and available 20-inch alloy wheels. Its smooth diamond pentagon grille and revised bumper design with LED fog lights are also redesigned for the ‘17 model.

 2. Both are Designed and Built in North America

The NSX and MDX look similar because they’re both designed and built in North America at the Acura Design Studio in Torrance, CA. NSX Lead designer Michelle Christensen set out to embody Acura’s ethos of Precision Crafted Performance in the design of both vehicles, placing the driver experience at the forefront of development.

In addition to the exterior similarities, the MDX matches—and in some cases exceeds—the NSX in interior quality and comfort. They share a push button starter and easy-to-use electronic shifter built right into center console, plus high-end leather throughout. The MDX also boasts room for seven passengers, while the driver and front passenger are layered in luxury and can experience a 10-way and 8-way power adjustable seat, respectively. Plus, there’s a heated steering wheel and heated windshield, which can be activated remotely with a bi-directional remote engine starter FOB.

There’s no question that the NSX Supercar is the pinnacle of Acura performance, but the MDX is redefining safety for the brand. Both vehicles feature multi-angle rear view cameras, vehicle stability assist and traction control, but this is one area where the new MDX, sets itself apart as a safety leader. The 2017 MDX is equipped with the new AcuraWatch package on all grades, making the MDX the first luxury SUV in its class to offer these advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies as standard: adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, forward collision warning and collision mitigation breaking, a blind spot information system, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist and road departure mitigation.

 5. Both Have a 9-Speed Automatic Transmission

In terms of engine performance you wouldn’t expect these two to have much in common, however, both vehicles use a 9-speed gearbox. The NSX uses a new dual-clutch unit, while the MDX make use of a smooth-shifting 9-speed automatic. The MDX comes standard with Super Handling All-Wheel Drive that can intuitively sense driving conditions and react accordingly with torque to the rear wheels to give you more control over the vehicle. And if you want your MDX to feel more like the NSX SuperCar then be sure to check out the 2017 MDX Sport Hybrid shipping later this year, which uses the same three-motor Sport Hybrid technology AWD.
