Acura NSX GT3 Race Car Looks Even Crazier than Production Model

The Acura NSX GT3 race car will compete in North America starting next year.

Making its debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show, the new NSX GT3 is currently undergoing testing and is slated for homologation as an FIA GT3 class race car this fall. Featuring custom bodywork and aerodynamics, the NSX GT3 looks the part with a massive rear wing, underbody diffuser and vents on the hood. The race car will be powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine using the same design specifications as the production NSX. It will however be mated to a six-speed, sequential-shift racing gearbox to deliver power to the rear wheels.

Development of the new race car began with the automaker’s Japan race engineering arm with testing on race tracks in Europe and Japan. Honda Performance Development in California has now taken over additional development, testing and final homologation to FIA GT3 global racing specifications.
