Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Reclaims Nurburgring Lap Record

Alfa Romeo didn’t sit idle after the new Porsche Panamera took its Nurburgring record away.

When the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio made its debut at the 2016 L.A. Auto Show, the Italian automaker made it a point that it had set a Nurburgring record for the fastest sedan with a lap time of 7:39. And then the new Porsche Panamera was introduced in June with the German automaker boasting that the Panamera Turbo was now the fastest around the ‘Ring, beating the Giulia’s time by one second.

The thing is, it appears the original lap time set by the Giulia was with a manual transmission. Now, a Giulia Quadrifoglio with an eight-speed automatic completed a lap in 7:32 and took back the title of the fastest sedan around the Nurburgring from the Panamera.

The record was set by Italian driver Fabio Francia, who is a test driver for Alfa Romeo and Maserati. That means the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is a good six seconds faster than the new Porsche Panamera Turbo, but something tells us that the upcoming Panamera Turbo S will be looking to take the record back.
