BMW Quietly Drops 6 Series Coupe

CARS.COM — BMW is no longer producing the 2017 6 Series coupe for the U.S., and there will be no 2018 model.

Production ended in February; U.S. spokeswoman Rebecca Kiehne confirmed the demise of the coupe to Cars.com. The 6 Series convertible and four-door Gran Coupe live on, however, and there will be 2018 models in the U.S., she said.

Dealers still have some, however. "If you can find one, you can grab one," said Kiehne. And you can find 151 offered for sale in dealer listings on Cars.com as of earlier today.

Truth be told, the Gran Coupe and similar four-door "coupes" that are proliferating from European luxury makers offer most of the style in a more practical package.

But most is not all, and Automotive News reported in October that BMW may bring back a true coupe in 2018 as well as a convertible later, in a revival of the classic 8 Series that was last seen in the 1990s. The coupe could more directly compete with Mercedes-Benz's bigger, more luxurious S-Class coupe and cabriolet.
