General Motors has issued a recall for three of its vehicles, the 2012 Buick Verano and the 2012 Chevy Cruze and Sonic, for an issue with the driver’s airbag.

In the case of a collision, the primary stage of the driver’s side airbag may not deploy, which can lead to serious injury or death. So far, the recall is only out on 500 vehicles north of the border in Canada, but will likely spread to the U.S. sometime soon.

Dealers will replace the airbag coil in the affected vehicles free of charge to the consumer.

UPDATE: The recall has now been announced by NHTSA for the U.S., where it affects 2,949 vehicles. GM will contact owners and replace the steering wheel airbag coil, free of charge. For more info, contact General Motors at 1-800-521-7300.
