Another Thursday means another teaser for the upcoming Dodge Demon, and this one reveals more about the car’s unique soundtrack.
Dodge has made a downloadable ringtone available and a new video teaser that lets us hear the Demon’s engine during a full launch, revealing the new torque reserve launch system. Torque reserve allows more air to flow in the engine before a launch, forcing the supercharger rpm to climb without torque overwhelming the grip of the rear tires.
It works using a bypass valve which “prefills” the supercharger, while fuel flow is cut from selected cylinders briefly, causing the change in exhaust tone. This allows the car to build boost pressure much quicker, helping it take advantage of its massive drag radials.

There is also another special message in this teaser, with the license plate reading “3.9+221=405.”
own Craig Cole has a few theories on what it could mean. “Perhaps 3.9 extra PSI of boost from a positive-displacement supercharger that’s 221 cubic inches (3.6-liters) bigger equals 405 more horsepower, though 1,112 horses is a bit hard to believe,” surmised Cole. “Or, maybe it’s 3.9 extra PSI of boost, adding 212 horses making for a 4.05-second zero-to-60 time. 919 horses is a bit more reasonable…”
The 2018 Dodge Challenger Demon will be unveiled at the New York Auto Show on April 11.
