Ford Mustang Stole Muscle Car Sales Crown from Chevy Camaro in 2015

The Ford Mustang has regained the muscle car sales crown from the Chevy Camaro in 2015.

Last year, Ford sold 122,345 Mustangs, while the Camaro sold 77,502. For Ford, those sales represent a large 48 percent sales jump year-over-year, while the Camaro actually slid by 10 percent compared to its 2014 sales. The Dodge Challenger remains in a distant third spot, moving 51,462 units during 2015, a record high for the car.

Yearly Camaro sales have been higher than Mustang from 2010 to 2014.

The new 2015 Ford Mustang started and ended the year with strong sales, while many Camaro customers were waiting for the new 6th-generation car to hit the market in the fall of 2015. This late arrival was predicted to send the Camaro for a late year sales spike, but it never came. That leaves 2015 as the worst sales year for the Camaro since it was reintroduced in 2009.

The muscle car sales battle will be interesting to watch in 2016, as more new Camaros get to dealerships and into the hands of customers.
