General Motors is expected to quickly offer compensation to vehicle owners affected by the recently overstated mpg claims.
Last week it was revealed that the 2016 Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave models overstated their fuel economy by 1 to 2 mpg, and now the American automaker is working out the details on a compensation plan for nearly 170,000 owners. The company says the mislabeling on the Monroney sticker was an “inadvertent error” and moved quickly to have them all replaced after issuing out a stop-sale order to its dealers.
Sources with knowledge to the matter say that GM will announce a plan to customers and dealers within a week.

A prospective class-action lawsuit has already been filed, seeking compensation for people who brought crossovers with inaccurate EPA stickers. The claim alleges that GM concealed the actual fuel economy of the crossovers and that customers overpaid for them.
The big question remains whether the overstated mpg claims only affect 2016 model year vehicles. believes that the fuel economy figures could have been overstated on more than two-million vehicles.
