Porsche Panamera Hybrid Variant with 462 HP Joins Lineup

The Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid has been introduced ahead of its debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.

Boasting total system output of 462 horsepower, the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is capable of traveling up to 31 miles (50 km) in all-electric mode with a maximum speed of 87 mph (140 km/h). Thanks to 516 pound-feet of torque, the four-door hybrid is capable of going zero-to-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 4.6 seconds.

In order to make the performance hybrid sedan a reality, Porsche borrowed technology from the 918 Spyder. So just like the 918 Spyder, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid’s electric motor pushes power to the wheels as soon as the gas pedal is touched. The gasoline engine being used is a 2.9-liter biturbo V6 that cranks out 330 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque on its own.

Mated to the engine is an eight-speed PDK transmission, which replaces the eight-speed automatic transmission used in the previous model.

Deliveries of the new Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid will begin in mid-April with a worldwide launch following later in 2017. The starting price is expected to be below the Panamera 4S, which starts at $98,300 in the U.S. Pricing for the current 4 E-Hybrid starts at $93,200.
