has released its list of the top 10 cars it predicts will give new owners fewer problems than its competitors.
Based on data collected on 640,000 vehicles, has released its Annual Reliability Survey, which studies 17 trouble areas to determine a Predicted Reliability Score for a vehicle.
Trouble areas range from broken interior trim to major issues like out-of-warranty transmission repairs, and the Predicted Reliability Score is combined with data collected from the publication’s track testing, as well as owner-satisfaction survey results and safety data to determine an overall score.

Here are this year’s top 10 most reliable cars:
10. Infiniti Q70
The Infiniti Q70 is the Japanese automaker’s most reliable model, helping Infiniti rank seventh overall among all automakers. The Q70 is currently Infiniti’s range-topping sedan, available with either a V6 or V8 gasoline engine, or a V6 hybrid powertrain. says handling on the Q70 is quite agile, while the ride is firm. The model is, however, behind the competition when it comes to cabin quietness.
9. Toyota Prius c
If you follow reliability studies on automakers, you shouldn’t be surprised to see a Toyota model on the list. In fact, Toyota is the most reliable automaker in this year’s study, rising one spot from two. The Toyota Prius c does have a harsh ride, a noisy engine, and slow acceleration, but it’s also more affordable than the standard Prius.
8. Toyota Prius v
In the market for a wagon? The Prius v offers a roomy rear seat and generous cargo area, but it is based on the last-generation Prius. praises its comfortable ride but did say uneven pavement can cause an annoying side-by-side rocking.
7. Lexus IS
Last year, Lexus was the top automaker in the annual reliability study, but this year, it falls a spot giving way to its parent company, Toyota. Still, there’s a trio of Lexus models on the top 10 list, meaning you really can’t go wrong with what you choose in terms of reliability.
The Lexus IS the sporty sedan model in the company’s lineup but there are a few sacrifices to be made compared to its competitors. Ride comfort is neither tied down nor plush, says , while fuel economy is under average.
6. Toyota RAV4
The Toyota RAV4 has consistently been one of the top-ranked crossovers for years, offering a quiet cabin, smooth ride, and plenty of advanced safety features. There’s also a hybrid version for those wanting to maximize fuel economy while carrying plenty.
5. Audi Q3
In terms of luxury crossovers, the Audi Q3 is highest ranked, beating out its rivals from BMW and Mercedes-Benz when it comes to reliability. The quiet crossover delivers a firm, comfortable ride with responsive handling.
4. Lexus GS
The larger Lexus GS is the automaker’s second-highest ranked model, delivering a balanced combination of ride, handling, quietness, and roominess. Those looking for more performance can spring for the GS F powered by a 467-horsepower V8 engine.
3. Lexus ES
The most reliable model from Lexus is the ES, but unlike the IS and GS, don’t expect this sedan to be exciting to drive. But it does offer a quiet cabin and great fuel economy, especially if you opt for the hybrid model that returns 36-mpg combined in ‘ testing.
2. Subaru BRZ / Toyota 86
Arguably the only real sports car on the list, the Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 is the go-to coupe if you’re looking for something reliable. Handling is super responsive, making both models fun-to-drive, although some may complain that they’re underpowered. The 86, which was formerly known as the Scion FR-S, is actually Toyota’s most reliable model.

1. Kia Niro
Kia as a brand rose two spots to the third overall position in this year’s survey, with the Niro named the most reliable vehicle overall. The new hybrid crossover does have a choppy ride and uninspired handling, but fuel economy is impressive for a crossover and a suite of advanced safety features are available.
