BMW, Hyundai Receive High Marks in J.D. Power's Tech Experience Index Study

BMW and Hyundai owners are satisfied with their vehicle’s technology.

The inaugural J.D. Power 2016 U.S. Tech Experience Index (TXI) Study has been released, measuring the overall customer experience with vehicle technology in their respective segments. The TXI Study surveys a vehicle owner’s experiences, usage and interaction with driver-centric technology after 90 days of ownership.

The major technology categories analyzed in the study include collision protection, comfort and convenience, driving assistance, entertainment and connectivity, navigation and smartphone mirroring.

Holding the highest overall satisfaction in this year’s study is the collision protection category with a score of 754 on a 1,000-point scale. Scoring the lowest of the five groups of technologies is navigation with 687 points.

This year’s study is based on a survey of 17,864 vehicle owners and lessees. Awards are based solely on responses from the 13,269 consumers who purchased or leased a new 2016 model-year vehicle in the previous 90 days that has been considered an all-new or redesigned vehicle within the past three years. J.D. Power fielded the study from February through August 2016.

Here are the top models for each segment for the J.D. Power 2016 U.S. Tech Experience Index Study.

Compact Car: Kia Forte

BMW, Hyundai Receive High Marks in J.D. Power's Tech Experience Index Study

The Kia Forte scored highest in the Compact segment, followed by the Scion iM and the Mitsubishi Outlander.


Small Car: Hyundai Tucson

BMW, Hyundai Receive High Marks in J.D. Power's Tech Experience Index Study

In the Small Car segment, the Hyundai Tucson received the highest marks. Coming in second place is the Scion iA while the Fiat 500X ranked third in the segment.


Midsize Car: Chevrolet Camaro

Chevrolet Camaro owners are happy with their in-car technology, with the Kia Sorento and Nissan Murano tying for second place.


Large Car: Nissan Maxima

BMW, Hyundai Receive High Marks in J.D. Power's Tech Experience Index Study

The Nissan Maxima scored highest in the Large Car market, with the Chevrolet Silverado Light Duty and GMC Sierra Light Duty following in second and third, respectively.


Compact Premium Car: BMW 4 Series

BMW, Hyundai Receive High Marks in J.D. Power's Tech Experience Index Study

Owners of the popular BMW 4 Series is pleased with their tech experience, with the coupe taking top honors in the Compact Premium segment. Taking second place is the Lexus IS, followed by the Lincoln MKC in third.


Small Premium Car: BMW 2 Series

BMW, Hyundai Receive High Marks in J.D. Power's Tech Experience Index Study

The second top-ranked car for BMW is the 2 Series, which had the highest score in the Small Premium Car segment. The Audi A3 comes in second, with the BMW X1 scoring third.


Midsize Premium Car: Hyundai Genesis

BMW, Hyundai Receive High Marks in J.D. Power's Tech Experience Index Study

The Hyundai Genesis claims top honors for the Midsize Premium Car category, followed by the Cadillac CTS and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class.
