Opel/Vauxhall Monza Concept Teased – Video

Following closely on rumors of a new sporty coupe from GM’s European operations, the first images of a the Monza Concept have broken cover, suggesting a possible two-door for the Buick brand as well.

Set to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the car will sit as a design concept, inspiring the next generation of Opel and Vauxhall models.

In addition to its design, it has two main themes: efficiency and connectivity. In terms of the latter, Opel says it will offer, “a quantum leap in the development of infotainment systems,” while as for the former it, “demonstrates outstanding efficiency through its architecture and use of materials, as well as in its aerodynamics and ground-breaking powertrain solution.”

“With the Monza Concept, we make our automotive future tangible today,” said Opel/Vauxhall CEO Karl-Thomas Neumann. “I can’t yet go into detail about how the Monza Concept’s interior design – and especially its trend-setting technologies – will change the driving experience. However, I can guarantee that viewed from any angle, its innovative body design and perfect proportions will turn heads.”

And along with sporty looks, Opel says the car is designed to convey a sense of excitement and fun behind the wheel.

Previous reports had suggested such a car could also preview a future Buick model, as several current Buick products are based off of Opel platforms. Theories pointed towards a revived Grand National model as a twin to the Monza, using a two-door version of the Cadillac ATS’s rear-drive platform. Based on the preliminary visuals of the Monza Concept it would seem this car is sized smaller than even the compact ATS, though future images will reveal more.

The Frankfurt Motor Show opens to the public on September 12th.
